GM to introduce industry-first front center airbags

With frontal, roof-mounted and rear-window airbags you'd be forgiven for thinking that there couldn't possibly be anywhere else in a car automobile manufacturers could cram one. But you'd be wrong. General Motors (GM) has just announced it will introduce the industry's first front center airbag in selected vehicles in 2013. The latest airbag addition is designed to protect drivers and front passengers in the event of side impact crashes.

First flight test of Advanced Hypersonic Weapon (AHW) concept

Following the two test flights of the unmanned Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle (HTV-2) earlier this year, both of which ended prematurely with the vehicle making a "controlled descent" into the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command conducted the first test flight of the Advanced Hypersonic Weapon (AHW) concept.

Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of Impact of rods to rigid and deformable barriers. Taylor Impact Test. Ricochet Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of Impact of rods to rigid and deformable barriers. Taylor Impact Test. Ricochet

In current project Taylor impact tests - impacting a fixed rigid surface with a cylindrical sample of material and ricochet processes were investigated with FE system LS-DYNA. The work results allowed to investigate material’s behavior at high stress and high strain rates and allowed predicting of rebounding processes.

Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of High Velocity Penetration of Long Rods into Semi-infinite Targets Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of High Velocity Penetration of Long Rods into Semi-infinite Targets

In current project penetration process of long rod into semi-infinite target connected with the heating process was investigated with FE system LS-DYNA. The impact velocity is 2347 m/s. In view of complexity of problem the behavior of steel long rod and target was modeled as Thermo-Elastic-Plastic one. The results of investigation are in a good agreement with experimental data.

Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of Spall Crack Formation Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of Spall Crack Formation

In current project spall crack formation process was investigated with FE system LS-DYNA. Impact of thin plate-impactor to target from titanium alloys was performed. The presented FE modeling shows the process of experimental determining of material resistance for scabbing failure. FE results were verified with experimental data. The work results allowed predicting spall crack formation, investigation of scabbing processes.
