Componeering Inc. signs an agreement about ESAComp distribution with Computational Mechanics Laboratory (CompMechLab® Ltd.) in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan

Russian high-tech scientific-innovation company Computational Mechanics Laboratory Ltd. (CompMechLab® Ltd.), based on Mechanics and Control Processes Department of St.Petersburg State Polytechnical University (SPbSPU) and providing computational engineering services across the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, machinery and metallurgic industries, and Finnish company Componeering Inc. that specializes in the development and application of software for structural analysis and design of composite structures, signed an agreement about ESAComp software distribution in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan on September 9th , 2011.

BMW Group and SGL Group joint venture opens the new carbon fiber plant in the USA

SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers officially opened on the 2nd of September its new state-of-the-art carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, WA. The new facility is strategic for the manufacture of ultra light-weight carbon fiber reinforced plastics for use in the new BMW i vehicles.

BMW and Premium AEROTEC showcase carbon composites technology

BMW is developing its carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) technology for use in its upcoming i3 and i8 models. At Landshut it is already producing CFRP roofs for its M3 model. In a new production hall at the site it is scaling up and optimising this process to make it suitable for the mass production of the passenger cell of the i models, which are based on BMW's new LifeDrive vehicle architecture.The company is using a high pressure resin transfer moulding (HP-RTM) process and is aiming to reduce the production cycle time to a "low single-digit number of minutes."

An overview of automakers’ PLM systems

Automakers are changing their PLM systems. They are increasingly relying on Dassault’s Catia and SiemensNX for car development. But they are also implementing software from other providers.

At the same time, users of PLM software are calling for more open systems. ProSTEP iViP, a global consortium promoting open standards, recently proposed a "Codex of PLM Openness". Several automakers are participating in a ProSTEP working group to prepare this document.
