Dassault to Acquire ICEM. MCAD giant pays 51.4 million Euros for industry leading styling software

Dassault Systèmes (DS), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, and ICEM, the leading provider of styling, high-quality surface modeling and rendering solutions, announced an agreement pursuant to which Dassault Systèmes would acquire ICEM, thus extending CATIA leadership to the broad and highly diversified styling communities. The proposed acquisition, for an estimated price of 51.4 million Euros, should be completed in June subject to specific closing conditions.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 Wins 2006 Product of the Year

SolidWorks 2008 Preview

SolidWorks World, February 7, 2007.  In General Session, SolidWorks gave the 3500+ users a sneak peek of SolidWorks 2008. The first feature of SolidWorks 2008 shown was more detail on the FastPreview option for opening assemblies. SolidWorks 2008 will include a Hole Alignment analysis tool. SWIFT technology has been further enhanced throughout the product.

Dynamic Assembly Motion, Physical Simulation, & COSMOS Motion have been unified into a single seamless interface. Another new “Xpress” tool was announced. FloXpress will be included with all SolidWorks licenses starting with SolidWorks 2008. It allows the user to do basic fluid flow analysis. Just like COSMOSXpress, the interface is an easy to use wizard based system. Results of each analysis can be viewed with slice planes (movable sections) or fluid flow trajectories that are displayed in the 3D model. A report can be automatically generated by the software and re-running analysis after changes have been made to the design is easy. A few more enhancements were shown in Drawings.

SolidWorks Redesigns 3D ContentCentral Website

SolidWorks Corporation today announced a comprehensive redesign of its 3D ContentCentral Web site that presents online catalogs in a common format, enables engineers to quickly find appropriate 3D CAD models, and accelerates the product design process. A standardized view of millions of product models reduces time spent searching through supplier catalogs and frees engineers to spend more time designing better products.

This new version of 3D ContentCentral is free to registered users and is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese. Users may now access supplier product information, 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in a consistent format and quickly complete cross-catalog searches to find the desired component.
